Chapel Dome Distillery, an up-and-coming whiskey distillery in Houston, gets its name from the famous dome at the Naval Academy Chapel, where two of our founders attended. The chapel’s cornerstone was laid in 1904 by Admiral George Dewey and represents moral guidance.

Our goal at our whiskey distillery in Houston is to reflect moral guidance while sharing our passion for American whiskey. Chapel Dome Distillery strives for authenticity in all of our products. Meet The Chapel Dome Distillery Team

Robert Burns – Managing Partner
Robert is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and holds a degree in Control Systems Engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years and is a decorated combat pilot with over 4,000 hours of flying military intelligence aircraft worldwide. He was awarded an Air Medal for gallantry in combat during Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Robert also qualified as a Mission Commander, Fleet Instructor Pilot, Functional Check Pilot, and ended his military career serving under the Joint Special Operations Command in the Middle East.

Upon exiting the military, Robert has led multiple large-scale engineering and development projects in the oil and gas industry, leading cross-functional teams to successfully and safely meet their goals. He is an expert on financial analysis of upstream oil and gas fields. Outside of work, Robert is an active member of the veteran community of Houston.

Michael Matson – Plankowner

Michael holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Rice University, where he taught “The Chemistry of Spirits” and “The Chemistry of Beer and Wine.” During this time, Michael also wrote “Inorganic Chemistry for Dummies.” He has five years of experience in the food and beverage industry, ranging from mixologist to certified sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers). Until December 2020, he was the majority owner of a successful CrossFit gym in the Houston area. He is a licensed professional engineer in Texas and Colorado, and like Robert, Michael is also an alum of the U.S. Naval Academy. Michael is also a Guinness World Record holder and skipper of the first American trio to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

Justin Terracio – Tasting Room & Event Area Partner

As the Founder and Principal Consultant for DataNav Consulting Group, Justin has almost 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Justin has vast knowledge in various hospitality verticals, from restaurants to music venues, special event centers, and everything food and beverage-related in between. He focuses his specialties on technology related to operations but spends a tremendous amount of time consulting on new concepts. Whether it is a new technology solution or restaurants and entertainment venues, Justin’s experience is so vast his ability to consult in the hospitality space has no limitations.

Throughout his career, Justin has had the privilege of holding critical roles in the organizations that have employed him and working with some of the most talented and well-respected organizations in the hospitality industry from a vendor standpoint. He has seen over 1,000 concepts and learned the inner workings of some of the most successful food and beverage groups in the world.
